And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. – Jesus (John 17:3)

Knowing God is more than religion and being ‘a good person.’  It is more than knowing about God.  It is a real and personal relationship with our Creator that results in eternal salvation.  It is far and away the most transformative relationship a person can have.

Just like we don’t have any doubt as to whether or not we know a person here in this life, there should be no doubt whether or not we know God.  If I asked you if you knew the governor, you would not say, “I think so”.   I would then know you are saying “I know about Him, or I know Who He is.”  That is far different than knowing Him.

It is very important we understand the difference between knowing Him and just knowing about Him!  When we know Him, things change.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).

If you have only known about God, and have never come to really know Him, He can be known at a personal level!  Of what other great or famous person can this be said?

Some people have obstacles or questions that hinder their faith.  HERE is a link that might help with some of these questions.

Jesus told us the time would come when many who knew about Jesus never truly gave their lives to Him.  When they stand before Him, they will hear these shocking words, “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’.” (Matthew 7:23) May you never have to hear these words!

Our salvation is made possible through Jesus’ sacrificial offering for our sins on the cross.  We experience this relationship when we repent of our sins and receive Him as our Lord and Savior.

If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.  – Romans 10:9,10 New Living Translation

“Declaring that Jesus is Lord” means that submit yourself to His leadership as Lord and ask Him to forgive your transgressions as Savior.   That’s what it means to “believe something in your heart” – you act upon it.  Most of the miracles Jesus performed required some kind of action on their part.  Salvation, which is a fundamental transformation of our nature from sin to righteousness, is the greatest miracle.   We must act upon the truth we hear.   We must give ourselves to Him.

Jeremiah the prophet in the Old Testament prophesied of a day when we would no longer ‘worship from afar’ but know God personally.

11 None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” – Hebrews 8:11,12

That day has come!  God has made Himself available to us.

If you have given your life to Jesus, it’s important now to begin regularly attending a life-giving Bible teaching church for instruction and fellowship, to begin a regular life of prayer, and to be baptized (Acts 2:38-42; Hebrews 10:25).
