Woman of the Month

Lisa – Woman of the Month

Meet our Woman of the Month, Lisa!

Years you’ve been following Christ: 43 years (the last 16 of those fully committed)
Years at NCC: 4

Current ministry role(s) at NCC/LADIES:
Vocalist and keyboardist on worship team, overseer of the registration/greeter team for Covenant Women.

How you started attending NCC:
Jerry got a job in Kilgore, and I stayed behind in Virginia pending the sale of our home. A neighbor in the apartment complex where he stayed invited him to NCC. He called me afterward and said, “Honey, I have found the church!” I came to visit and attended NCC with him. I cried the entire service. It was everything I have prayed for, and I really felt at home.

Favorite part of NCC:
Must I choose only one? The structure, leadership, discipleship, and opportunities for growth.

Family members:
Husband, Jerry. We are a blended family with two sons and two daughters-in-law, one daughter and son-in-law, and three grandsons.

Favorite place to eat in the area & why:
Downtown D’Lites in Kilgore. It is delicious and healthy, and we love the owners and atmosphere!

Current significant scripture or life scripture:
But speaking the truth in love [in all things—both our speech and our lives expressing His truth], let us grow up in all things into Him [following His example] who is the Head—Christ. Eph. 4:15 AMP

A recent testimony:
The word the Lord gave me for 2018 is “fearless”.  I initially tried to argue with Him over that one.  (Have you ever done that?)  The Lord said again, “Fearless!”  Like, walk right into the battle as a warrior princess and slay that dragon!  You are not alone!  I will help you and direct you!  You see, I was facing something very challenging and had been for some time.
Recently, in His presence, He held me…I could literally feel myself being cradled in His arms.  I do not  have adequate words to describe the feeling.  I wanted to linger there.  He said, “Open your eyes.  What do you see?”  Gazing at the fireplace in front me, I said, “Flames.”  He said, “Fan the flames.”  I looked that up:

I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.-2 Timothy 1:5-7 (NLT).

Interestingly, verse 6 is Jerry’s favorite verse and hangs on our living room wall.  I was allowing the problem to become Goliath, and I had laid down my stone and slingshot.  God so gently shifted my focus, and I came away from my time with Him determined, sword in hand, ready to go for the enemy’s jugular!
